DENVER – University of Denver Skiing announced today the team's 2024 NCAA schedule that features the Denver Invitational at Loveland Ski Area and in the Vail Valley and the national championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, in March.
DU will host its own meet in early February, starting with a pair of slalom races on the Continental Divide at Loveland Ski Area on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 5-6. The Nordic events are the ensuing weekend at Maloit Park in Minturn, Colorado, with the classical 10-kilometer mass start on Friday, Feb. 9 and the freestyle 5K interval start on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The weekend at Maloit Park will be the culmination of two weeks of competition in the Pioneers' home state, as Denver opens the month on Feb. 2-3 with Nordic and alpine events in Steamboat Springs with the Spencer James Nelson Colorado Invitational. The alpine giant slalom and Nordic 7.5K freestyle begin CU's meet before the 20K classic and night slalom races conclude the invitational the next day at the town's historic Howelsen Hill Ski Area
The Colorado Invitational will be a precursor and preview for the athletes as they'll return to Steamboat a month later for the 2024 NCAA Championships, hosted by CU.
Denver goes for its 25th national title beginning on March 6 with alpine giant slalom at Steamboat Resort before the national championships shifts to Howelsen Hill for the final three days of competition. The Nordics kick off their championships on March 7 with the 7.5K freestyle interval start before alpine slalom on the night of March 8. The Nordic 20K classic concludes the NCAA Nationals on March 9.
The 2024 collegiate campaign starts in Utah as Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association's teams compete at the U.S. Cross Country National Championships at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center just after the New Year. The American championships will also double as the Westminster Invitational and a RMISA Nordic Qualifier race.
The Westminster Invite begins the season with the 10K classic on Jan. 2 at the U.S. Nationals before freestyle sprints two days later on the course in Midway, Utah. RMISA squads will also race in classic sprints on Jan. 7 at Soldier Hollow as an extra Nordic race for the NCAA qualification.
Denver's Nordic squad will stay in Utah after the U.S. Cross Country National Championships and begin the Utah Invitational with the 7.5K freestyle interval and 10K classic pursuit on Jan. 12-13 at Solider Hollow. Alpine opens their season at Olympic Park in Park City with giant slalom and slalom events to conclude the Westminster Invitational on Jan. 17-19 and Utah Invitational on Jan. 18-20.
This year's RMISA Championships are in Bozeman, Montana, on Feb. 23-25 at Big Sky Resort (alpine) and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center (Nordic) before the Pioneers return to Colorado for the NCAA Championships two weeks later.
