[RV/RV] Denver Travels to [13/16] Duke for Friday Clash

The two winningest head coaches will meet for the 26th time on Friday on ESPNU

DENVER – The [RV/RV] University of Denver men's lacrosse program, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, will leave the state of Colorado for the first time this weekend when the Pioneers travel to [13/16] Duke. The game at Koskinen Stadium will be at 4 p.m. ET/2 p.m. MT, and be broadcast live on ESPNU.

DI Series History vs. Duke
Duke holds a 10-6 lead in the series and has won each of the last five meetings between the two programs. Denver's last win at Duke came in February of 2013 when the ninth-ranked Pioneers beat the sixth-ranked Blue Devils 14-12. Prior to Duke's run of wins in the series, the Pioneers won three-straight from 2015-17, defeating the Blue Devils in back-to-back Cobb County Classic games in 2015 and 2016 before hosting Duke ab PBLS in 2017 (won 14-9).

Last Meeting vs. Duke
Denver and Duke played to a high-scoring 5-5 first quarter in Durham last February, but the Blue Devils used a 4-1 second-quarter to kickstart a run that saw the home team win the game 19-10. JJ Sillstrop had five goals and an assist in the loss.

Last Time Out – Air Force 12, Denver 10
Sillstrop had Denver's first hat trick of the season and Alec Stathakis went 17-for-23 with 14 ground balls from the faceoff stripe, but the Pioneers fell to Air Force 12-10 last Saturday in Colorado Springs.

Bill Tierney's Final Season
Head coach Bill Tierney will roam the Denver sidelines for his 14th and final season in 2023. Tierney enters the game at 158-55 at DU and 430-148 in his 39th season as a college head lacrosse coach.

Friday's game is the 26th meeting between the only two head coaches to reach 400 Division I wins. Tierney leads 13-12. It will also mark the 14th time the two coaches are meeting with their current programs, a 7-6 edge for Duke's John Danowski.

All Across the Country
The 2023 Denver Pioneers have players from 19 different states, bringing the program's total in the Division I era to 35 different states. The 2023 Pioneers added three new states to the program's list: Iowa (Michael Provenza), Kansas (Cade Eldred) and Utah (Chris Caldwell).
