Jack Devine Named NCHC Forward of the Week

Sophomore totaled seven points in DU hockey’s series split with Minnesota Duluth

DENVER – Sophomore Jack Devine of the Denver Pioneers hockey team has been named the NCHC Forward of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The winger combined for seven points and nine shots over DU's two games last week against Minnesota Duluth and finished the two-game set with a plus-3 rating. He is the second Pioneer this season to produce seven points in a weekend series, joining Massimo Rizzo (1g/7a) on Oct. 28-29 at Miami.

Devine opened the series by matching a then-career high with three points (2g/1a) on Friday in Denver's 6-2 win. He tallied two goals in the contest, the first of his multi-score outing of his collegiate tenure, and also notched the game-winner in the second period.

The Glencoe, Illinois, native bettered his performance on Saturday by recording four points (1g/3a) in a 6-5 loss by the Pioneers. He had one goal and three assists, with all three helpers coming in the third period during DU's attempted rally from a three-goal deficit. It was the seventh, three-assist game of the season by a Denver player and the fourth time that a Pioneer produced three points in a single frame in 2022-23

Devine now has 23 points this season on eight goals and 15 assists. He ranks seventh on the team in scoring.

This is Devine's first career Forward of the Week award and his third career weekly honor from the NCHC, as he was twice named Rookie of the Week last season as a freshman.

Omaha's Jonny Tychonic was named Defenseman of the Week, Cameron Rowe of Western Michigan was recognized as Goaltender of the Week and Minnesota Duluth's Ben Steeves earned Rookie of the Week honors. Denver's Mike Benning (Defenseman) and Aidan Thompson (Rookie) were finalists for this week's awards from the conference.

UP NEXT: The No. 3 Pioneers travel to Kalamazoo this weekend to take on the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday and Saturday in their final road trip of the regular season.
