GIRDWOOD, Alaska – Junior
Nora Brand of the University of Denver ski team won her first career race on Thursday in women's slalom at the Alaska Anchorage Invitational at Alyeska Resort.
Brand had recorded three podiums in her four previous races before reaching the top of the stand on the final day of the UAA Invite with a combined time of 1:29.13. She had the fastest first run (42.80) and her 46.33 mark in run 2 was good enough to hold onto the lead. Brand had finished third in both slalom events at last week's Denver Invitational and in giant slalom on Tuesday at the UAA Invite.
The Munich, Germany, native has finished in the top 10 in all eight races she's finished this year and has been in the top five in six of them.
Freshman
Sara Rask finished third (1:30.02) for her seventh-straight podium and her ninth time on the stand in 10 races this year. Freshman
Mia Hunt came in 12th while fellow rookie
Josephine Trueblood had her bester career result in 13th. Senior
Galena Wardle did not finish her first run.
On the men's side, freshman

Cooper Cornelius (23rd) and
Cole Puckett (24th) as the squad's scorers. Trey Seymore was disqualified after the opening session, while freshman
Jack Bowers (run 1) and
Thomas Hoffman (run 2) both weren't able to finish runs.
As a team, the Pioneers garnered 136 points on the day and finished second in the UAA Invitational standings with 543 points. Utah won with 671 points. Colorado was 12 points behind Denver in third place.
