DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team (5-2) posted its second sweep of the season with a 7-0 win over Montana State on Friday.
Denver claimed wins in all three doubles matches and all five of the contested singles matches after MSU was forced to play with just five singles players.
Doubles:
Denver captured the doubles point with matching scores of 6-1 on all three courts. After mixing up its team pairings, fifth-year student
Taylor Melville and freshman
Louise Wikander played together for the first time and earning the first finish of the day in No. 2 doubles. The remaining two matches finished closely afterward, starting with senior
Britt Pursell and freshman
Caroline Driscoll in No. 2 doubles, and freshman
Claudia Martinez de Velasco and sophomore
Andrea Burguete Beltran in No. 1 doubles.
Singles:
Only five singles matches were contested when Montana State had only five players available, and DU won all five in straight sets.
Freshman
Anastasia Simonov earned the first singles win of the day on court 5 with matching 6-1 sets. Melville dropped just one more game that Simonov after earning her second bagel of the season followed by a 6-3 second set in No. 1 singles.
Martinez de Velasco and Wikander both scored 6-2 6-2 wins, Martinez de Velasco in No. 4 singles and Wikander in No. 2 singles. Driscoll returned to the lineup and notched the final win of the day, a 6-3 6-4 victory on court 3.
