SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Denver men's tennis team (5-5) finished February with a 5-2 loss at No. 57-ranked Utah om Saturday.
Doubles:
Utah won the doubles point with match 6-4 wins on Courts 1 and 3. DU's No. 2 doubles team of junior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta and redshirt senior
Anish Sriniketh were sitting on a 5-4 score line when the match was left unfinished.
Singles:
DU's first point of the day came in No. 4 singles with a straight-sets win for graduate student
Conner Olsen.
Denver forced three sets on three of the five remaining courts including freshman
Raffaello Papajcik in No. 6 singles. After dropping the first set, he rallied for a 6-3 win in the second before ending up in a third-set tiebreak, which he took 7-3. The freshman is now a team-best 5-0 in singles on the season.
Junior
Peter Sallay also forced a tiebreak in the third set during his No. 3 singles match. He lost the first set but answered with a 6-1 win in the second before falling in a tight 7-5 breaker.
Up Next:
Denver remains on the road for one more week, heading to southern California for a Friday, March 3, match at Loyola Marymount before playing Boise State the next day in a neutral-site match.
