DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team remains No. 3 overall in both national polls as the Pioneers prepare for the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
Denver held its positions after the latest USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine rankings were released on Monday following the team's two-game sweep of Miami in the NCHC Quarterfinals. The Pioneers, who are the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, defeated the No. 7-seed RedHawks 6-2 on Friday and 7-2 on Saturday.
DU has been ranked inside the top five all season long.
In the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the field for the national tournament, Denver ranks third behind Minnesota and Quinnipiac and is expected to be a No. 1 seed when the NCAA Tournament begins next week.
The NCHC has five schools in the voting polls, tied for the most among all conferences (Big Ten). St. Cloud State (7/7), Western Michigan (9/9), North Dakota (17/16) and Omaha (18/19) are also ranked, and Minnesota Duluth and Colorado College both received votes in the USCHO.com poll.
Denver goes for the NCHC Tournament Championship this weekend as it faces Colorado College in the semifinals on Friday at 3 p.m. MT at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The winner of that contest will face either St. Cloud State or North Dakota in the championship game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. MT.
