SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –
University of Denver Men's Basketball junior guard Tommy Bruner was selected to the Summit League All-Newcomer Team on Thursday in a release by the league. The voting is made of up of Head Coaches, Sports Information Directors and select media from around the league. [CS1]
"I am honored and excited to receive this award from the league," Bruner said. "I couldn't have done this without the support and efforts of my teammates. It's tough to come into a new league with such good talent and make an impact but with head coach Jeff Wulbrun's support and my teammates, they made me feel at home and allowed me to play some good ball this year."
The transfer from Jacksonville joins former Pioneers Joe Rosga (2016), Ronnie Harrell (2019) and
KJ Hunt (2022) to make the team.
Bruner is enjoying a career year in his first season with the Pioneers, averaging career highs in points (15.8) assists (4.2), and free throws made (144). The playmaking guard had recorded eight games this year with at least 20 points and 14 games with at least five assists.
The Columbia, S.C. native helped power the Pioneers an their best start in program history through nine games this season with an 8-1 record.
Bruner was also earned honorable metntion All-Summit League honors as well.
Full list of Summit League accolades listed below. Denver is set to take on No. 9 North Dakota on Friday in the first round of the Summit League Championship game at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center at 5 p.m. MT. The game can be seen on ESPN Plus.
