DENVER – Sophomore
Matt Davis of the Denver Pioneers hockey team has been named Goaltender of the Week by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Davis won both starts this past weekend as Denver swept its final regular-season series against in-state rival Colorado College. He made 21 saves on Friday in a 2-1 victory in Denver before stopping 25-of-27 shots on Saturday in a 4-2 comeback win in Colorado Springs.
Overall, Davis finished the weekend with a 1.50 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. Two of the three goals he allowed in the two outings came during CC power plays.
The Calgary, Alberta, native has a 6-1-0 record, 1.72 goals-against average, .923 save percentage and one shutout on the campaign. He has won all six of his starts this year and has won each of his past eight starts dating back to last season.
This is Davis' first career weekly honor from the NCHC and the third time the Pioneers have picked up the top goaltender honor this season. Senior
Magnus Chrona was named Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 31 and Jan. 16.
Max Sasson of Western Michigan was named Forward of the Week, while North Dakota's Ethan Frisch and Dylan James earned Defenseman and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
