ABOUT MILWAUKEE CHALLENGE CUP:
Denver joins host Marqutte, Milwaukee and Minnesota in the 2023 Milwaukee Challenge Cup, set for August 24-27. DU will face both Wisconsin teams, first Marquette on Thursday and then Milwaukee on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT:
DU visited Colorado College for its second in-state matchup of opening weekend, posting a 2-2 draw on August 20. Graduate student
Camryn MacMillan scored just 30 seconds into the match, a goal that would become the fourth-fastest in Denver's Division I history. After CC scored in the 16
th minute, DU graduate student
Kaitlyn Glover again put Denver up after juggling around the CC keeper in the 25
th minute. The Tigers would again equalize in the 34
th minute, and neither team scored in the second half to leave the final score at 2-2.
QUICK HITS:
- Denver outshot Colorado College, 23-7, on August 20, tying for the seventh-largest shot margin (16) for DU in a non-conference match (records dating back to 2002).
- Seven of DU's 23 shots came within the final 10 minutes of play.
- With her three points at Colorado College, MacMillan is now one of 19 Denver student-athletes to score at least 50 career points (51).
- Glover is now tied for the 12th-most goals scored in DU's DI history after scoring the 23rd of her career on August 20 at CC.
- DU's first goal of the season came from freshman Liv Moritz against Colorado State on August 17. She became the fourth DU freshman to score in a season opener (DU's Division I era) and the first since Jocelyn Loomis in 2014.
- In the season opener against Colorado State, freshman Molly Wissman became the fifth Denver freshman to start in goal in a season opener and the first since Brittany Wilson in 2016.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
This will be the first all-time meeting between Denver and Marquette.
MU split its first two matches of the season, falling 4-0 to No. 18 Northwestern at home in its 2023 opener before notching a 1-0 win at Colorado on Sunday.
WHAT'S NEXT:
DU plays its second and final match of the Milwaukee Challenge Cup when it takes on Milwaukee on Sunday, August 27, at 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT. DU returns home to host Northern Colorado on Thursday, August 31, at 7 p.m. MT.
