COACH'S NOTES:
From head coach
Julianne Sitch: "I'm extremely proud of the team and their resilience today and for the weekend. It was our first big road trip of the year, and we played against two good programs and came away with two points.
"Today was a great moment for us, to come back from being down twice and still fight with quality chances to score until the end. I'm proud of their hard work, dedication to each other and belief. There are positive things to build upon as we move forward this season."
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- Freshman Liv Moritz accumulated four points after being involved in all three of Denver's goals, scoring the team's first goal and then adding primary assists on others.
- Moritz's goal on Thursday mirrored the first of her career, coming as a 1-1 equalizer.
- Graduate student Kaitlyn Glover scored for the second Sunday in a row, putting her in the same company as Moritz as DU's multi-goal scorers so far this season.
- Glover shared the team lead with four shots on Sunday, all four landing on target and marking the most shots on goal by a DU player so far in 2023.
- Freshman goalkeeper Molly Wissman made three saves for DU, marking a new high in her young career.
- Moritz, graduate student Hannah Gallegos and senior Vanessa Murray were named to the Milwaukee Challenge Cup All-Tournament team. Denver finished in third place overall with two points.
FIRST HALF:
16' | Milwaukee got on the board first after Kayla Rollins knocked in a cross from teammate Elizabeth Reece at the far post.
22' | In the right place at the right time, Moritz headed home the equalizer off a deflection in front of the net, sending the ball over the keeper's head near the left post.
38' | The Panthers found multiple scoring chances, but Wissman – with some help from her goal post – prevented the first shot while Gallegos blocked two more attempted in subsequent attacks.
SECOND HALF:
55' | Moritz won a battle down the left side of the field and sent a cross into the box. Frost met the ball and sent it into the upper right corner to give DU the 2-1 lead.
67' | Shortly after UWM's seventh corner of the day, both teams scrambled for the ball in front of Wissman's net with UWM's Brooke Parnello squeaking it through to pull even at 2-2.
69' | UWM was awarded a penalty kick after a light collision inside the box. Wissman, facing the first penalty shot of her career, guessed correctly but was just a hair too late as Milwaukee's Lainey Higgins sent it into the lower left corner.
82' | After graduate student Camryn MacMillan controlled a throw in, Moritz again sent a cross in to the center of the box from the left side, and Glover sent her first touch into the upper right corner of the net.
90' | In a similar set up to their 82
nd-minute goal, Moritz and Glover almost put Denver ahead in the final 30 seconds of play, but the Panthers' keeper made the grab.
