DU Women’s Soccer Welcomes NC State on Sunday

Denver begins three-match homestand on Thursday evening

WHAT: Second of three-match homestand
WHERE: University of Denver Soccer Stadium
WHEN: Sunday, September 3, at 12 p.m. MT

LAST TIME OUT:
After starting the year with four consecutive draws, Denver finally captured its first win of the season with a 3-1 win over Northern Colorado on August 31. DU scored twice within about three minutes in the first half with an opening goal from junior Riley Baker and then what would be the eventual game winner from senior Vanessa Murray. UNC pulled within one after converting a penalty shot in the final seconds of the first half, but junior Blythe Sales put DU up by two once again in the 74th minute.

QUICK HITS:
  • Murray set two career highs during the Northern Colorado match, earning the first game winner of her career and posting her first three-point outing.
  • Through the first five matches of the year, Denver has outshot its opponent, 76-56.
    • DU allowed a season-low three shots to Northern Colorado on Thursday night to post its fourth positive shot margin of the year (15-3).
  • Two Pioneers made their season debuts in the UNC match in junior Delaney McGowan and sophomore Hannah Tate – who also made her collegiate debut.
  • Thursday's win was the first at the Division I level for head coach Julianne Sitch. She moved to 23-0-5 so far as a collegiate head coach following her 22-0-1 record with the UChicago men's program en route to winning the 2022 Division III national title.
  • Denver finished the month of August undefeated for the fifth time in the last 15 years.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK:
This will be the first all-time meeting between Denver and NC State.

The Wolfpack is coming off its first loss of the season after dropping a 2-1 decision at Colorado on Thursday. After Taylor Chism scored the equalizer for NC State in the 87th minute, CU took the lead once again in the 90th minute.
