DU Women’s Soccer Hosts [22/24] Colorado in Non-Conference Finale

Denver closes non-conference slate with fourth in-state match up of the season

WHO: Denver (4-0-4, 0-0-0 Summit) vs. [22/24] Colorado (7-1-0, 0-0-0 Pac-12)
WHAT: Final non-conference match in 2023
WHERE: University of Denver Soccer Stadium (Denver, Colorado)
WHEN: Friday, September 15, at 7 p.m. MT

LAST TIME OUT:
Freshman Liv Moritz posted her first career brace to lead Denver to a 2-0 victory at Oregon on September 10. After entering halftime knotted up at 0-0, Moritz opened the scoring in the 51st minute, in what would be her second game winner in as many matches, before netting a second goal less than nine minutes later.

Fellow freshman Molly Wissman collected her second straight shutout and her third on the season.

QUICK HITS:
  • Denver is one of 27 Division I programs to enter the fifth week of the season undefeated.
    • It is just the second time in its Division I history that Denver is undefeated through the first eight matches, matching the record set in 2013 when DU was 7-0-1 to begin the season.
  • So far, 12 different Pioneers have scored at least once, which is the second most through the first eight matches of a season and behind only 2021's 13 goal scorers.
  • DU is up to 21 goals scored so far in 2023, the second most through the team's first eight matches and behind only 2021's 22 goals.
  • After scoring both of Denver's game winners last week, Moritz was named the Summit League Offensive Peak Performer of the week – the first weekly honor for Denver this season.
    • She is the first DU freshman to earn a Summit League weekly award since Sami Feller in 2018.
  • Over the last seven matches, DU has outshot its opponents, 158-69, and has held its opponent to eight shots or fewer in six of those matches.
SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES:
This will be the 28th all-time meeting between DU and CU with Colorado holding an 18-8-1 record. The teams have played at least once in each of the last 20 seasons, last playing in Denver on September 19, 2021, in a 3-1 win for Colorado.

The Buffs are coming off a 2-1 win against Colgate at home on September 10. Shyra James scored midway through the first half to give CU the 1-0 lead at halftime. Colgate drew even in the 55th minute, but CU retook the lead less than two minutes later Juliauna Hayward's first goal of the season.

WHAT'S NEXT:
DU opens Summit League play when it hosts Oral Roberts on Saturday, September 23, at 7 p.m. MT.
