DU Women’s Soccer Begins Summit League Road Trip at St. Thomas

Denver plays year’s second Summit League match on Thursday evening

WHO: Denver (5-1-4, 0-0-0 Summit) at St. Thomas (1-3-3, 0-1-0 Summit)
WHAT: First Summit League road match of 2023
WHERE: South Field (St. Paul, Minnesota)
WHEN: Thursday, September 28, at 4 p.m. CT/3 p.m. MT

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver began Summit League play with a 1-0 win over Oral Roberts at home on September 23. Junior Riley Baker headed home a cross from sophomore Lily O'Grady in the 16th minute for the match's only goal while freshman Molly Wissman secured her fourth clean sheet of the season.

QUICK HITS:
  • Denver extended its streak of outshooting its opponents to six consecutive matches and in eight of its last nine.
  • DU has logged double-digit shot attempts in every match this season except for the season opener.
  • Junior Samantha Dreiling has had at least one shot in the last eight matches – and at least two in each of the last four matches including a career-best five against Oral Roberts.
    • Baker is the only Denver player with a longer streak with at least one shot, sitting at nine straight.
  • The Denver defense allowed a season-best one shot on target to Oral Roberts. ORU's four shots were tied for the second-fewest allowed by DU this year, behind only Northern Colorado's three.
  • Through the first 10 matches of the season, 14 DU student-athletes have at least two points on the year, led by freshman Liv Moritz's 14.
SCOUTING THE TOMMIES:
This will be just the third all-time meeting between Denver and St. Thomas, both finishing as DU wins. The teams most recently met in Denver on October 16, 2022, in a 4-1 win for the Pioneers. DU opened the head-to-head series at UST on October 8, 2021, in a 2-1 win.

The Tommies began Summit League play with a 3-1 loss at South Dakota on September 21. Molly Knoblauch scored UST's only goal in the 69th minute to become the ninth Tommie to score at least once this year. Mariah Nguyen, the 2022 Summit League Newcomer of the Year, leads the team with five goals and 11 points.

Denver continues its first Summit League road trip when it travels to Omaha on Sunday, October 1, at 1 p.m. CT/12 p.m. MT.
