DU Women’s Soccer Ends Homestand on Thursday vs. Colgate

Denver hosts penultimate non-conference home match

WHO: Denver (2-0-4, 0-0-0 Summit) vs. Colgate (1-4-1, 0-0-0 Patriot)
WHAT: Final game of three-match homestand
WHERE: University of Denver Soccer Stadium
WHEN: Thursday, September 7, at 7 p.m. MT

LAST TIME OUT:
After starting the year with four consecutive draws, Denver collected its second win in a row with a 4-2 victory over NC State on September 3. DU held a 3-0 lead after the first 76 minutes with goals from graduate student Kaitlyn Glover, freshman Michaela McGowan and sophomore Lily O'Grady before the Wolfpack scored twice in less than three minutes. Senior McKenna Dannenhauer answered with her first goal of the year in the 84th minute to give DU the two-goal lead once again.

QUICK HITS:
  • DU is undefeated through the first six matches for just the third time in its Division I history and for the first time since 2013.
  • So far, 10 different Pioneers have scored at least once, which is tied for the second most through the first six matches of a season and behind only 2021's 12 goal scorers.
  • Following its four goals against NC State, Denver has now scored at least three goals in three consecutive non-conference matches for just the second time (previously only doing it 2001 against UTEP, Texas Tech and Colorado).
  • Denver has doubled up its opponents shots over the last five matches, 88-44. DU has held its opponent to seven or fewer shots in four of those five matches.
  • Denver's win over NC State was just its second against an ACC time and the first since a 1-0 victory over Clemson in 2006. It was the first Power-5 win for DU since back-to-back wins over Utah and Kansas State in 2021.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS:
This will be the third all-time meeting between Denver and Colgate with DU winning the last two matches. The teams last met on September 6, 2009, in a neutral-site match in Boulder, Colorado, which DU won 1-0 in double OT.

The only time Colgate has traveled to Denver was October 10, 1999, in a 2-0 win for DU.

The Raiders are coming off a 2-0 loss against Vermont at home on September 3. Colgate began the 2023 season with a 4-0 win at Canisius and a 1-1 draw at Kent State.

WHAT'S NEXT:
DU travels to Oregon for its first of back-to-back Power-5 matches, facing the Ducks on Sunday, September 10, at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT. Denver will return home to close out its non-conference schedule when it hosts Colorado on September 15 at 7 p.m. MT.
