The Pioneers complete sweep in two day meet against regional rivals

DENVER – The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving programs completed a two-day sweep over regional rivals Wyoming and BYU on Saturday afternoon inside El Pomar Natatorium.

El Pomar records continued to fall on Saturday. Marco Nosack edged out the men's 200 IM time with a 1:48.66. Denver also picked up five NCAA B Standards on the weekend. Mina Ada Solaker earned a 400IM standard, Dylan Wright got another B-cut in the men's 200 back. Jessica Maeda earned hers in the 200 breast. Alex Lynch also got a 200 breast B-Cut and Kieran Watson earned a 500 free B-Cut on Friday.

How it Happened:
Denver opened the second session with a win in the 400 medley relay. Ali Beay, Jessica Maeda, Ines Marin and Erika Remington backed up last night's win in the 200 with a time of 3:42.17 in the 400.

In the final distance race of the two day meet, Denver took second and third in the women's 1000. Sabrina Rachjaibun grabbed second in 10:16.40 and Nika Spehar grabbed third in 10:25.61.

Kieran Watson completed the men's distance sweep, taking Saturday's 1000 free with a time of 9:18.35.

Denver took the top two spots in the women's 200 IM. Jessica Maeda continued her impressive season with a 2:04.52 to lead the field, while Lilly Zippel was right behind her in second in 2:05.21.

Marco Nosack broke his pool record in the next event, beating Jake Eccleston's time of 1:48.78 set in 2022. Jason McMechan finished third in the event with a time of 1:51.31.

Erika Remington won the sprint free on Saturday afternoon, swimming the 50 in 23.01. Donat Fabian completed a Denver 50 free sweep with a time of 20.08.

Mia Moulden gave Denver its seventh victory of the afternoon with a 2:02.92 in the women's 200 fly. Rachjaibun earned second in 2:04.49.

Dylan Wright and Brandon Chapman grabbed second and third place finishes in the men's 200 fly. Wright earned a 1:47.87 to take second, nearly a second ahead of the pool record entering the day, while Chapman took third in 1:50.06.

Beay outswam the field in the 100 back, leading a trio of Pioneers that earned spots in the top four in the event. Beay clocked in at 54.99, Zippel finished second in 56.48 and Darian Koler grabbed fourth in 56.49.

Wright completed a backstroke sweep on the weekend with a 48.69 in the men's 100.

In diving, Zyad Morsy completed his weekend sweep with a score of 358.05 in the 1-meter. Kaitlin Calvery led the Denver women with a second place finish and a score of 301.43.

Up Next:
Denver will have next week off before the Pioneers host Air Force and Seattle in the annual Sprint Eliminator on January 27. Diving begins at 10 a.m. MT and swimming will begin at 1:30 p.m. MT
