Denver Falls Short in Loss to North Dakota State

DENVER, CO --The Denver women's basketball team fell short in an 84-63 loss to the North Dakota State Bison at home on Thursday.

The Pioneers (4-13, 1-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Jordan Jones, who had 18 points and two steals. Angelina Robles added 12 points and three steals and Emma Smith chipped in as well with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Denver defense was dual-sided in Thursday's game, forcing 14 North Dakota State turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Robles' three steals led the way individually for the Pioneers.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-6, Denver went on a 5-0 run with 4:57 left in the first quarter to take an 11-10 lead. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-16.

The Pioneers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 40-34 halftime deficit.

North Dakota State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 54-45 advantage before Denver went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 54-51 with 59 seconds to go in the third. North Dakota State countered and stretched its lead to 56-51 heading into the fourth. Denver played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 17 points in the paint.

Denver could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 84-63.
