DU Hockey Moves to No. 4 in National Polls

Pioneers get set for a top-five matchup at North Dakota

DENVER – University of Denver hockey team moved up to No. 4 in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls after the latest national rankings were released on Monday.

The Pioneers swept their weekend series at then-No. 19 Omaha, winning 6-3 on Friday and 6-2 on Saturday to stretch their season-long unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1). It is DU's longest such stretch since winning seven in a row last season from Nov. 26-Dec. 17, 2022.

In the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the NCAA Tournament field, Denver is presently rated sixth.

DU, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Maine all moved up in the polls after former No. 3 Quinnipiac lost both games last weekend at Colgate and then-No. 16 Cornell. Boston University is the top-ranked school in both polls, with cross-town rival Boston College at No. 2 and Wisconsin at No. 3.

The NCHC joins Hockey East with two squads in the top five with North Dakota behind the Pioneers at No. 5 in each ranking.

Denver and North Dakota wrap up their four-game regular season series this weekend in Grand Forks in a top-five matchup. The teams split a top-three set on Dec. 1-2 at DU when the Pioneers were at No. 3 and the Fighting Hawks were at No. 2. UND went 1-0-1 last weekend at St. Cloud State in a matchup of the top-two teams in the conference.

Overall, the NCHC's five ranked teams are tied with the Big Ten for the second-most among all conferences behind only Hockey East (six). Western Michigan comes in at No. 12/12, St. Cloud State is at No. 15/14 and Colorado College is just behind at No. 16/17. Omaha is the first team receiving votes in each ranking after entering the polls for the first time this year last week.

UP NEXT: Denver's game on Friday at North Dakota begins at 6:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcasted exclusively on national TV on CBS Sports Network. Saturday's contest starts at 5 p.m. MT and can be watched on NCHC.tv.

About the USCHO.com Poll: The rankings are compiled weekly and consists of 50 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country.

About the USA Hockey/The Rink Live Poll: The rankings are conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey.
