DENVER – Fifth-year guard and NCAA Men's Division I leading scorer
Tommy Bruner poured in a game-high 33, including two crucial triples in the extra session to lead the University of Denver men's basketball program past Idaho State 95-82 Wednesday night in Hamilton Gymnasium.
The Pioneers (10-6) had four players score in double figures, led by
Tommy Bruner, who had 33 points, six assists and two steals.
Touko Tainamo added 18 points, eight rebounds and two steals and
Isaiah Carr helped out with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks off the bench.
Denver out-rebounded Idaho State 33-32 in Wednesday's game, led by Tainamo's eight boards.
The Denver defense was a problem in Wednesday's game, forcing 13 Idaho State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into seven points on the offensive end of the floor. Tainamo's two steals led the way individually for the Pioneers.
Notes:
- Denver played back-to-back overtimes for the first time since February 5-6, 2021 against North Dakota. Denver lost the first and won the second overtime in 2021 as well.
- Denver shot 60% from the field, its first 60% performance against a DI opponent since shooting 67.3% in a 93-83 win at Houston Christian on December 1, 2022.
- The Pioneers shot 50% from three for the first time since at South Dakota on January 19, 2023.

Isaiah Carr finished with 12 points and 6 rebound.
- Carr finished in double figures for the third time this season and of his career.
Jaxon Brenchley finished with 10 points, three rebounds and three assistes.
- Brenchley finished in double figures for the second-straight game, the eighth time this season and the 12th time in his career.
How it Happened:
After falling behind 32-28, Denver went on a 5-0 run with 6:38 left in the first half to take a 33-32 lead. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 46-40.
Idaho State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 59-52 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run to even the score at 59 all with 9:34 to go in the contest. Neither team was able to finish the game in regulation and the contest headed to overtime tied at 77-77. Denver got out on the break in the period, scoring 11 fast break points.
Denver started overtime with a bang, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Bruner's three, to seize an 88-77 lead with 2:19 to go in the period. The Pioneers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 95-82 win.

Denver and the rest of the league will close out its Big Sky/Summit League Challenge schedule on Saturday. The Pioneers will make the short trip to Northern Colorado on Saturday for a 6 p.m. MT tip. The game will be the second game of a double-header with the women's program's match-up with Northern Colorado, scheduled for 3 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
