GREELEY, CO --The Denver women's basketball team fell to the Northern Colorado Bears, 59-56, on the road Saturday.
The Pioneers (4-11) had two players score in double figures, led by Jordan Jones, who had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Emma Smith added 19 points and Makayla Minett added five points and 14 rebounds.
Denver collected 37 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Northern Colorado's 35, led by Minett's 14 boards.
The Denver defense held Northern Colorado shooters to only 37.9 percent from the field. The Bears did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only nine offensive rebounds and scored eight second chance points while Denver pulled down 28 defensive rebounds.

Denver started off strong, putting together an 18-13 lead heading into the second quarter. Denver relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 18 points.
Denver kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 3:50 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Jones, to increase its lead to 31-24. The Bears then came roaring back to take a 32-31 lead heading into halftime.
Northern Colorado continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 35-31 advantage before Denver went on a 9-0 run to grab a 40-35 lead with 7:36 to go in the third. Northern Colorado responded to seize a 49-48 lead entering the fourth quarter. Denver took advantage of three Northern Colorado turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of takeaways.
Northern Colorado kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 56-50 advantage before Denver went on a 6-0 run to even the score at 56 all with 10 seconds to go in the contest. The Pioneers could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Bears outscored them 3-0 the rest of the way to hand Denver the 59-56 loss. Denver took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its eight points in the paint.
