DENVER – University of Denver hockey junior
Matt Davis has been named the NCHC Goaltender of the Week for games from Dec. 28-Jan. 8, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced on Tuesday.
The award is the second of his career after also earning top goalie honors last season on March 6, 2023.
Davis posted two wins over Niagara last weekend in his first action since Oct. 27, as he missed 13 games with a lower-body injury. He made 22 saves in his return to the cage in a 5-2 win on Friday before stopping 27 shots the next night in a 6-2 victory.
The Calgary, Alberta, native is unbeaten in his last four games (3-0-1) for the longest such streak by a DU netminder this season. Overall, Davis owns a 5-1-1 record, 2.73 goals-against average and .893 save percentage in seven contests this year.
This is the Pioneers' second Goalie of the Week honor of 2023-24, as
Freddie Halyk also picked up the accolade on Nov. 27. DU has won 14 conference weekly awards this year.
North Dakota's Riese Gaber was named the league's Forward of the Week, while Cooper Wylie was selected as Defenseman of the Week and Colorado College's Bret Link was chosen as the Rookie of the Week.
Denver's
Kent Anderson was a finalist for the NCHC Defenseman of the Week, while
Tristan Broz was a nominee for Forward of the Week.
