DENVER – Two University of Denver hockey players earned National Collegiate Hockey Conference honors on Monday as senior
Carter King was named NCHC Forward of the Week and sophomore
Eric Pohlkamp was recognized as the league's Defenseman of the Week.
King earns his first career Forward of the Week award after totaling three goals and two assists in the No. 1 Pioneers' series sweep of then-No. 19 Northeastern over the weekend. The DU captain scored the game-opening goal on Friday in the home opener at Magness Arena before matching a career high with four points on two goals and two assists on Saturday.
He also went 20-for-34 on Saturday at the faceoff circle—the most draw wins by a Pioneer player since Tyson McLellan won 23-of-35 on Jan. 4, 2020 against Massachusetts. His two goals on Saturday marked his third career multi-goal game, and it was his first four-point performance since registering a goal and three assists in DU's comeback victory at Arizona State on Nov. 11, 2023.
The Calgary, Alberta, native is tied for the team lead with four goals and ranks third in scoring with seven points after also adding three assists in four contests. King has points in each of Denver's four outings this year and paces the Pioneers with a .578 faceoff-winning percentage.
Pohlkamp picks up his first career NCHC weekly honor after finishing the weekend set against the NU Huskies with a goal, assist, three blocked shots and plus-3 rating. He recorded an assist on Friday before tallying for the first time as a Pioneer on Saturday night.
The Baxter, Minnesota, native has points in each of the last three games and leads the squad with 18 shots on goal. He also owns a plus-7 rating through four contests, the second-highest on Denver behind defensive partner
Boston Buckberger.
The rear guard is in his first season with the Pioneers after transferring in the summer from Bemidji State. Pohlkamp was named the CCHA Defenseman of the Week three times and was twice named the conference's Rookie of the Week in 2023-24.
St. Cloud State's Isak Posch was selected as the NCHC Goaltender of the Week while Zach Nehring of Western Michigan was chosen as the league's Rookie of the Week.
