Denver Women's Tennis Posts Seven Wins to Begin Husky Invite
Pioneers sweep doubles matches against Seattle, add four singles wins against WSU
SEATTLE – The University of Denver women's tennis team logged seven total wins on the first day of the Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington, on Friday.
DU won each of its doubles matches against Seattle and only dropped four games across the three contests.
Four Pioneers earned singles wins over opponents from Washington State with three of them losing six or fewer games in total. Junior
Marley Lambert captured a bagel in her first set before closing the second, 6-4. Freshman
Natálie Cinková nearly matched Lambert's scoreline, losing just one more game in the first set. Junior
Hana Bečirovič Novak posted matching 6-3 sets in her win.
Senior
Andrea Burguete Beltran was up a set when her opponent retired in the second set. Junior
Claudia Martinez de Velasco came back from a set down to force a 10-point tiebreak to decide the match but lost the breaker while fellow junior
Louise Wikander dropped her match in straight sets.
The Husky Invitational continues on Saturday, October 5, with Denver taking on Seattle in doubles at 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT, and Iowa and Washington in singles beginning at 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. MT.
