DENVER – A pair of University of Denver hockey players earned honors from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Monday as sophomore
Sam Harris was named Forward of the Week and senior
Matt Davis was selected as Goaltender of the Week.
The Denver duo led the squad to 4-1 victories against Lindenwood University on both Friday and Saturday night, improving the Pioneers' record to 10-0-0—the best start in school history.
Harris picks up his first career Forward of the Week award after totaling three goals in the two games against LU, scoring the game-winner each night. After tallying on Friday, he netted two markers in the third period on Saturday break a 1-1 tie for his second multi-goal game of the season and fifth of his career. He also added four shots on the weekend and finished with a plus-2 rating
The San Diego, California, now has points in each of the last seven games he's played (seven goals and four assists), the longest stretch of his career. His nine goals on the season lead all NCAA players while his 13 points are tied for seventh-most in the nation.
This is Harris second career NCHC weekly honor as he was named Rookie of the Week last season on March 4, 2024.
Davis stopped 41 of the 43 shots he faced over the weekend, finishing the two-game series with a 1.01 goals-against average and .953 save percentage. He saved 23-of-24 shots on Friday and 18-of-19 pucks on Saturday.
Like the squad, the Calgary, Alberta, native remains undefeated on the year with nine wins in nine games and has won 18 straight starts dating back to March 9, 2024. He ranks fourth in the nation with a 1.34 goals-against average and his .942 save percentage is 10th-best in the NCAA.
Davis earns his third career NCHC Goaltender of the Week award, as he also picked up the hardware on March 6, 2023 and Jan. 9, 2024.
