DU Hockey Ranks No. 2 in Newest Polls

Pioneers drop out of the top spot for the first time this year

DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team comes in at No. 2 in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live national polls after the most recent rankings were released on Monday.

DU dropped from No. 1 after falling 3-2 and 5-2 at home last weekend to NCHC-foe Arizona State. The Pioneers had been at No. 1 in each of the previous eight rankings this season and in nine straight dating back to the final polls last year. The Pioneers were the unanimous No. 1 team on both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live's lists last week.

Despite dropping, Denver still earned seven first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and five in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live list.

Michigan State is the new No. 1 team in each ranking after having a bye last weekend. Minnesota ranks No. 3, Boston College is at No. 4 and Maine comes in at No. 4 in the USCHO.com list. The USA Hockey/The Rink Live ranking has Minnesota and BC flipped, with the Eagles at No. 3 and the Gophers at No. 4, while Maine still is at No. 5.

DU has a two-point edge of UM in USCHO.com (910-908) and has 23 more points than BC in USA Hockey/The Rink Live (628-605).

The NCHC leads all conferences with four teams in the top 10 and six ranked overall. Joining  the Pioneers in the top-half of the list is Western Michigan at No. 7/7, Colorado College at No. 8/8 and St. Cloud State at No. 9/9. North Dakota comes in at No. 14/15 while Arizona State returns to the rankings at No. 19/20.

UP NEXT: Denver is on its second bye of the season and opens a three-game road swing on Dec. 6-7 at No. 67 Western Michigan before a home-and-home set against No. 8 Colorado College on Dec. 13-14 to wrap up the first half of the season. WMU has a home-and-home series this weekend against No. 6 Michigan.
