STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Denver men's basketball program kept it tight in the opening 10 minutes, but Stanford pulled away to win 85-62 on Monday afternoon at Maples Pavilion.
The Pioneers (0-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Sebastian Akins, who had 15 points and two steals. DeAndre Craig tacked on 12 points and four assists and Pedro Lopez-Sanvicente helped out with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game started very back and forth with Denver holding the lead seven different times to go with five ties in the opening 12 minutes of the contest. Denver's final lead came at 18-17 with 8:47 to go in the first. Stanford pulled away in the latter stages of the first half.
Another back and forth start to the second half saw the Pios cut it within 15, but Stanford stretched the lead back out to as much as 27 with 2:21 to play.
