ROME, Ga. – University of Denver women's tennis players
Andrea Burguete Beltran and
Marley Lambert secured a straight-sets win in their first match at the 2024 ITA Conference Masters Championships on Thursday evening.
The Denver duo defeated Cal State Fullerton's Myoung/Nikitash under the lights in Friday's round of 32 match.
Burguete/Beltran claimed the opening set after breaking in consecutive return games to jump out to a 5-2 lead. The team from Cal State Fullerton got one of the breaks back, but the Pioneers responded with a third break in the set to claim it, 6-3.
The teams exchanged breaks early in the second set to start a streak of five of six games with a break. Burguete Beltran/Lambert converted all three of the break chances they earned in the set before Lambert served out the match with another 6-3 win.
Next up for Burguete Beltran/Lambert will be a round of 16 match against Cosmo/Ushio from UIC on Friday, November 8. The match is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. MT start.
Four more Pioneers are in action this weekend and begin play at the Colorado Cup on Friday as well. Play at Denver Tennis Park is set to begin at 9 a.m. MT.
