DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program had its three-game win streak come to an end in a 74-59 loss to Cal State Fullerton inside Titan Gym on Sunday afternoon.
The Pioneers (6-7) had two players score in double figures, led by DeAndre Craig, who had 17 points. Nicholas Shogbonyo tacked on 15 points and six rebounds and Pedro Lopez Sanvicente added six points.
Lopez Sanvicente pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Denver offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into eight second chance points.
NOTES:
- Denver finished the game with just 6 turnovers.
- The Pioneers finished with 10 turnovers or less for the fifth-straight game.
- DeAndre Craig finished with 17 points.
- Craig finished in double figures for the fifth-straight game, the ninth time this season and the 20th time in his career.
- Nicholas Shogbonyo finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
- Shogbonyo finished in double figures for the third-straight game and the ninth time in his first season with the Pioneers.
- Shogbonyo, who shot 8-11 from the line, finished with 8+ free-throws for the second-straight game and the third time this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Denver opened on a 5-0 run before Fullerton reeled off 17 of the next 19 points to get themselves in-front. The Pioneers struggled from the field in the opening 20 minutes and went into the locker room down 14 by a count of 36-22.
CSU Fullerton kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 56-37 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Ben Bowen's layup, to shrink the deficit to 56-44 with 9:24 to go in the contest. CSU Fullerton responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-59. Denver got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 10 of its 37 total points.
