Why did you choose the University of Denver?
"I chose DU for the opportunity to develop as both a person and as a player, and for the great academics and athletics that we have here at the university."
How did you get involved in hockey and what is your earliest memory of ice skating?
"I got involved in hockey because two of my older sisters played and after that they started putting me on skates. My earliest memory was just skating on my local youth team. I know a couple kids to this day that I skated with my first couple of years. Just skating around there, no drills or anything, just skating around and having fun out there."
What are your goals for this season?
"My biggest goal is to win the national championship. It would be amazing to go back-to-back and that's something we weren't able to do after my freshman year, so I think it would be really cool to do that as a senior."
What are some of your favorite activities to do when you're not at the rink?
"Hang out with my roommates and teammates; that's really fun. I also like to golf a little bit when the weather is right."
What are your plans for the future and after college?
"My goal is to play professionally, start trying to figure all of that out, but definitely play professionally. I'm majoring in finance if hockey doesn't work out. I'll do something in business when hockey is all said and done."
If you weren't playing hockey, what sport would you play?
"Baseball. One of my best friends is a pitcher and in the offseason we work out and hang out a bunch together. I think I could be pretty good at batting if I had tried the sport from an earlier age, but it's hard. I always try to convince him to let me take a couple of bats against him. So maybe baseball, I think that would be my best chance."
What position would you play in baseball?
"First base and just hit. I think I could stand there and catch a couple."
What kind of music do you like?
"I like almost everything; I don't really have a genre that I don't like. I'd say I listen to a lot of country in the summer, a little bit of rap. That's probably the most that I listen to. If I had to guess, my top artist is probably Morgan Wallen."
What is your go-to pre-game meal?
"We get it at the rink, just chicken, pasta and a little bit of broccoli. It's pretty boring, but it's alright."
Where is your favorite spot to vacation?
"My family has a cabin in Northern Michigan, so we go up there. It's just nice to get away for a week and spend time with them. My phone doesn't really work up there, so it's nice to get away from everything."
Do you like to ski?
"I do like to ski. I haven't really skied since I've been out here; I don't want to get injured doing it. I do like skiing but haven't really had much opportunity."
What are your favorite movies and TV shows?
"My favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone—I love the first Home Alone. I also like Forrest Gump—that's another big one I like, so probably those two. My favorite TV show is either Friends or The Office; I really like both of those."
Do you have a pre-game routine?
"I like to get to the rink kind of early; tape my stick, roll out a bit. We have a bunch of meetings we do as a team and then usually eat a peanut butter and jelly or something like that. I stick to that, but nothing too crazy.
Do you take a pre-game nap as well?
"I pre-game nap too, but sometimes it's hard depending on the time of the game. So if I nap or not, it doesn't really matter to me as much."
Do you think about statistics when playing, as the current top NCAA point holder?
"No, you try not to think about stats during the game. You just figure out how to help your team, try to help them score. Some games you're going to have to focus a little bit more defensively, some games are going to be more offensively. So I try not to keep that too much in mind, and when I'm out there I just try and help my team as much as possible."
What are some of your favorite spots in Colorado?
"I like going to Avalanche games. It's fun to go to all of the sporting events, either Avs games or Rockies games. I've been to Boulder and Vail a couple of times, and that was really cool as well."
Do you have any causes that are special to you?
"Growing up I worked with a group called1WORLD Sports; my dad ran a charity through that, so that was my earliest work. I worked with Dawg Nation here, so I've done a little bit with Marty [Richardson] there, he's a really good guy. Whenever I'm in town I try to go to their events, and if he ever needs anything from me, I try to be available for him."
What is something that other people might not know about you?
"That I have two sisters. I don't know if everybody knows that about me."
What other sports have you participated in?
"I played soccer and ran cross country growing up."
What position did you play in soccer?
"I think I was a midfielder. I stopped when I got to fifth grade, so it wasn't that long, but I played for a bit."
Are you related to or know anyone "famous?"
"I'm definitely not related to anyone famous. I know couple of DU alumni or old teammates, like I know Troy Terry a little bit—he would probably be the most famous one. One of my buddies, Danny Wolf, is one of the best college basketball players this year. We're pretty good friends, so I'll say that him."
