DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team moved up one spot to No. 5 in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live rankings after the latest national polls were released on Monday.
Denver, which was previously No. 6 on both lists, is coming off it final bye week of the regular season. The Pioneers last played on Feb. 2-3 when they split a series against then-No. 15 Western Michigan, winning 3-2 and losing 7-2.
In the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the NCAA Tournament field, Denver is at No. 7. DU is tied with Michigan State for the No. 5 spot in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll, as both programs earned 500 points.
Boston College is the No. 1 team in the country in both national polls, while NCHC-rival North Dakota is second.
The NCHC has six teams ranked overall, tied for the most among all conferences with Hockey East. North Dakota is at No. 2/2, Western Michigan is at No. 13/13, Colorado College is No. 15/16, St. Cloud State is No. 16/15 and Omaha is No. 18/18.
UP NEXT: Denver travels to face the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs this weekend. Friday's game is at 7 p.m. MT and will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network, while Saturday's start time is 6 p.m. MT and will be broadcasted on NCHC.tv.
About the USCHO.com Poll: The rankings are compiled weekly and consists of 50 voters, including coaches and media professionals from across the country.
About the USA Hockey/The Rink Live Poll: The rankings are conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey.
