DU Men’s Tennis Adds Theo Coats, Samuel Rovai for 2024-25

Future Pioneers signed their National Letters of Intent to join Denver next season

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team will welcome two more student-athletes for the 2024-25 season, head coach Drew Eberly announced on Wednesday.

Theo Coats and Samuel Rovai have each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the team for the next academic year.

Coats joins Denver from Leicester, England, after making the doubles final of two ITF J5 tournaments in Liverpool in the last two seasons, winning the title in 2022 with his partner, Sebastian Harrison. In 2023, he won the Leicestershire men's county championship and advanced to the final of the 18U Corby Nationals. So far in 2024, he has already made the final of a men's tournament on the British national tour.

In January 2023, he achieved a career-best ITF junior ranking of No. 1441.

Rovai is a Gothenburg, Sweden, native who won the 2022 Swedish 18U national doubles title while also advancing to the singles semifinals. In the same year, he twice advanced to the doubles final of ITF junior tournaments, first at the J5 Stavanger and then at the J5 Hillerod. Last year, he also added a tournament win at a Swedish national winter tour event.

After advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2023 ITF M15 Kalmar tournament in doubles, he landed his first ATP points and reached a career-high doubles ranking of No. 2071.

Coats and Rovai will join Mark Neyelov, who also signed his National Letter of Intent to join DU for the 2024-25 season.
