Denver, Zanusso, Secure Runner-Up Finish

The Pioneers secured the best start to a spring season since 2004.

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The University of Denver women's golf team rounded out the FAU Paradise Invitational with a runner-up finish, finishing the two-day tournament at 3-under 861. 

The Pioneers carded their best tournament finish to start a spring season since the Iowa State, Toledo, Denver Triangle on Feb. 19, 2004, while South Florida claimed the team title at 7-under 857 and Vanderbilt came in third at 1-over 865. DU's 36-hole score of 570 is the fifth-lowest in program history. Denver led the field in par-4 scoring and had the most pars in the 13-team tournament.

Of the Pioneers five-some, two earned top-10 finishes and all five finished in the top-40, while Haven Ward, competing as an individual, tied for 67th at 18-over 234.

Anna Zanusso earned her second runner-up finish of the 2023-24 season after posting two birdies in the final 18 and nine in the tournament to finish at 4-under 212. The fifth-year is now in sole possession of the record for most career birdies at 326. Clara Gestsdottir recorded another solid performance for the Pioneers, earning her first top-10 finish of the season to tie for ninth at 1-under 215. 

Emma Bryant shot 3-over 219, including one of three tournament eagles in the first round of play, while Anna Krekling shot a 4-over 220 and tied for 23rd. 

Katy Drocarova finished tied for 33rd, carding a 2-over 74 in the final round, while Haven Ward also posted a 74 as an individual. 

Next up, the Pioneers head to San Diego for the San Diego State Classic on February 12-13.
