DENVER, CO --Jordan Jones registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but the Denver women's basketball team fell to the South Dakota Coyotes 78-48 at home Thursday.
The Pioneers (6-17, 3-7) had two players score in double figures, led by Angelina Robles, who had 14 points and four assists. Jones added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Makayla Minett added six points.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 3-2 advantage, Denver went on a 5-0 run with 6:50 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Emily Counsel, to increase its lead to 8-2. The Pioneers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-10.
South Dakota kept adding to that lead, building a 21-10 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from Jones, to narrow its deficit to 21-17. South Dakota responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Pioneers trailing 34-24 heading into halftime.
South Dakota continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 39-26 advantage before Denver went on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Robles, to trim its deficit to 39-33 with 6:58 to go in the third. South Dakota countered and stretched its lead to 53-38 heading into the fourth. Denver knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 14 total points.
Denver could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 78-48.Â
