No. 36 DU Men’s Tennis Moves to 14-0 with Win at Air Force

Denver extends unbeaten streak to start 2024 with 5-2 win on Saturday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 36-ranked University of Denver men's tennis team (14-0, 0-0 Summit) continued its unbeaten start to the 2024 dual season with a 5-2 win at Air Force on Saturday afternoon.

DU clinched the win at 4-1 before splitting results in the final two singles matches.

Doubles:
For the seventh match in a row, Denver captured the doubles point with wins in the Nos. 2 and 3 matches. DU's No. 2 team of graduate student Marvin Schaber and junior Daniel Sancho Arbizu gave DU the upper hand with a 6-3 win before graduate student Anish Sriniketh and sophomore Raffaello Papajcik sealed it with a win in a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was also set for a tiebreak that was not played after Denver clinched the point.

Singles:
Schaber won his second-straight match at the No. 2 singles slot for Denver and did so yet again in straight sets. Shortly afterward, Sancho Arbizu put DU within a point of victory with another victory in two sets for DU, getting back in the win column after retiring in his last match.

Air Force earned its first point of the day with a win in two tight sets at No. 4 singles, but senior Nicolas Herrero Cuesta secured the dual for Denver in a comeback win in the No. 1 match. After dropping the first set, 7-5, he responded with a win in a second-set tiebreak before running away with the third set.

The No. 5 singles match went to Air Force before DU senior Charlie Miller snagged a 6-4 6-0 win in the final match to finish.
