Denver to Face St. Cloud State in 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff

Pioneers to face home-state Huskies in the conference tournament semifinals on Friday in St. Paul

DENVER – The University of Denver hockey team will play the St. Cloud State Huskies in the 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinals.
 
No. 2-seed Denver and No. 3-seed St. Cloud State will face-off on Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. MT in the second semifinal of the conference tournament at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
 
No. 1-seed North Dakota will player in the day at 3 p.m. MT against Omaha, which was the No. 5 seed and defeated Colorado College in Game 3 on Sunday in Colorado Springs.
 
St. Cloud State also needed a deciding-third game to advance to the Frozen Faceoff, as the Huskies beat No. 6-seed Western Michigan 5-1 on Sunday at home after the Broncos evened the series with a Saturday night win in Game 2.
 
The Pioneers advanced to the Frozen Faceoff semifinals for a 10th time in their history and sweeping their quarterfinal series versus Minnesota Duluth with 4-0 and 5-2 victories. Denver is the only squad to advance to the NCHC's final four in all 10-held tournaments, and the program is looking for its third NCHC Tournament title (2014, 2018) and 18th overall in conference tournaments (15 in WCHA).
 
DU is 1-1 all-time against SCSU in the NCHC Tournament, with the Pios winning in the 2018 championship game and falling in the 2016 semifinals. Overall, Denver is 2-3 against St. Cloud in conference tournament games (1-2 in WCHA).
 
The Pioneers went 3-0-1 in the regular-season series against the Huskies, which included sweeping the set in St. Cloud earlier this month on March 1-2 with 6-2 and 7-2 victories. Denver won 5-1 at Magness Arena on Jan. 12 before the teams tied 3-3 the next night (NCHC shootout loss).
 
Denver owns a 26-9-1 all-time record in the NCHC Tournament.
