PREVIEW: [9/10] Denver Opens BIG EAST Play at [RV/RV] Villanova

The Pioneers begin the second segment of their 2024 campaign on the road Saturday afternoon

DENVER – The [9/10] University of Denver men's lacrosse program will open its 2024 BIG EAST calendar on Saturday when the Pioneers travel to [RV/RV] Villanova. Opening faceoff at Villanova Stadium is set for 12 p.m. ET/10 a.m. MT, and the game will be broadcast live on Flo Sports.  
 
SERIES HISTORY:
Denver holds a 17-4 advantage in the series, and has won each of the last two meetings since falling to the Wildcats in the 2022 BIG EAST Semifinal. Last season, the Pioneers earned a 12-6 home win in April before returning the favor and knocking Villanova out of the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament in May in Wisconsin by a count of 16-9.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
Michael Lampert and Joshua Carlson each had a pair of goals, and Malcolm Kleban finished with 10 stops, but the Pios fell to third-ranked Duke 11-7 last Sunday just outside of Baltimore.

  • Last season's roster added three states to that list this season in Iowa (Provenza), Kansas (Eldred) and Utah (Caldwell).
  • The Pios have had 20+ from seven states: Colorado (100), Connecticut (32), California(27), New Jersey(26), Maryland(24), Ohio (22), New York (21).
  • Denver's DI student-athletes also cover three provinces of Canada: Alberta (2), B.C. (15) and Ontario (16).
UP NEXT:
Denver will return home for the first time in nearly a month when the Pioneers welcome St. John's to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium for the first of two Friday night under the lights games at PBLS. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. MT, and the game will be broadcast on Pioneer Vision and 104.3 The Fan HD 3.
