SIOUX FALLS, SD --The Denver women's basketball team knocked down 8-of-19 attempts from three-point range, shooting 42.1 percent from deep in a 72-60 loss to the North Dakota State Bison in the 2024 Summit League Quarterfinals at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center Saturday.
The Pioneers (8-22) had four players score in double figures, led by Jordan Jones, who had 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Emily Counsel added 12 points and Angelina Robles chipped in as well with 11 points and three steals. Emma Smith rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 to go with three rebounds, two assists and two steals.Â
Lauren With was the most prolific shooter beyond the arc for the Pioneers, draining three treys in the contest.
How It Happened
Denver struggled out of the gate, falling behind 25-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Pioneers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 39-28 halftime deficit.
North Dakota State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 50-38 advantage before Denver went on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Jones, to trim its deficit to 50-46 with 4:35 to go in the third. North Dakota State countered and stretched its lead to 60-49 heading into the fourth. Denver knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 21 total points.
Denver could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 72-60. Denver fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 11 points.
