DENVER – Forward
Jack Devine of University of Denver hockey team will return for his senior season with the Pioneers in 2024-25.
Devine is coming off a career junior campaign in 2023-24, producing personal bests with 27 goals and 29 assists for 56 points. He ranked fourth among all players in the nation in goals and ranked seventh in points, while his 29 assists tied for third overall on DU.
In addition to leading the team in goals and points, he paced the Pioneers with 142 shots, nine power-play goals and 16 power-play points, while also ranking third on the squad with a .190 shooting percentage and fourth with three game-winning goals. He also added 20 penalty minutes and a plus-29 rating and played in all 44 games to help the Denver capture its NCAA-record 10th national championship and his second in three years.
The Glencoe, Illinois, native was the first player in the country to reach the 20-goal threshold, as he accomplished the feat in the just 23 games to become the quickest Pioneer in recent history to hit the mark. Devine had nine multi-goal and 18 multi-point outings during the year, and he finished the campaign with the most goals by a Pioneer since Ryan Dingle also had 27 markers in 2005-06.
Devine began the season with multiple points in each of the first five games from Oct 7-27 (6g/7a). It was the longest point streak of his career and marked the longest multi-point stretch by a Denver skater since teammate
Massimo Rizzo also had a five-game run from Oct. 21-Nov. 4, 2022 (4g/9a).
The right wing registered a career-high five points with two goals and three assists on Jan. 19 at Omaha to become the first Pioneer with a five-point performance since Bobby Brink on Feb. 4, 2022 against St. Cloud State (1g/4a). Four of Devine's five points came in the second period, which also marked the most in a single frame this year—DU players had previously recorded three points in a period 14 times since the start of 2021-22.
Devine recorded points eight of the first 10 contests of the year, totaling 10 goals and eight assists in that time. He produced a career-long three-game goal streak three times during the year: opening the season from Oct. 7-20 (5g/3a), Nov. 24-Dec. 1 (4g/4a) and Jan. 13-20 (4g/3a). The forward matched his career-long point stretch from the start of the season on Feb. 3-24 with a personal-best five-game assist streak (1g/6a). He finished the year with 16 points (6g/10a) in the final 17 games.
Devine scored the quickest game-opening goal of the season by a Pioneer after tallying just 16 seconds into the contest against Colorado College on March 8. That marker also served as his 100th career point, becoming the 103rd Denver player to reach the century mark and accomplishing the feat in 109 games.
Named an All-American (West First Team) for the first time in his career, Devine was also a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's top player, an All-NCHC First Team member and a finalist for both of the conference's Player and Forward of the Year awards. In the classroom, he was named to the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete for the third time each in his collegiate tenure.
The 20-year-old owns 106 points on 44 goals and 62 assists in 118 career games, ranking tied for 82nd all-time in scoring in Denver hockey history with Chris Paradise (1998-2002). He has increased his scoring output in each campaign at DU, as he recorded three goals and 16 assists as a freshman during the team's 2021-22 championship season. He had 14 goals and 17 assists as a sophomore in 2022-23.
Devine joined Denver in fall 2021 as the second-youngest player in college hockey after suiting up for the U.S. National Team Development Program for two seasons from 2019-2021. He previously played for the Chicago Mission organization prior to his time at the NTDP.
The Florida Panthers selected Devine at No 221 overall in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
