QUICK HITS:
- For the second year in a row, Denver's first goal of the season came in the 51st minute of the opening match.
- Frost's converted penalty on Thursday against UNC came at the 50:31 mark while then-freshman Liv Moritz had the 2023 season-opening goal just six seconds earlier (50:25) during DU's opener against Colorado State on August 17, 2023.
- Two Pioneers made their first collegiate starts on Thursday night (junior Isabella Chidiac and sophomore Michaela McGowan) while two more saw their first collegiate minutes played (true freshman Megan Murray and redshirt freshman Kera Nguyen).
- Redshirt sophomore transfer Emma Thielbahr made her Denver debut and played the full 90 minutes.
- Among the Pioneers who extended notable playing streaks were:
- Senior Riley Baker, who has now started in 30 of DU's last 32 matches;
- Frost, who continued her streak of playing in every match of her career; and
- Graduate student Vanessa Murray, who started in her 28th-straight match.
SCOUTING THE BENGALS:
For the second match in a row to begin 2024, Denver will meet an opponent that it has previously only faced once. DU claimed a 2-1 victory in its only other meeting with Idaho State, a match that came during Denver's first season as an NCAA Division I program on November 1, 1998, in a neutral-site contest held in Boise, Idaho.
The Bengals opened their season at Colorado State – which DU will play at on September 12 – and finished in a scoreless draw on Thursday evening. Midfielder Camille Kollar led the ISU offensive attack with three shots, and goalkeeper Trinity Hale made all six of the match's saves.
WHAT'S NEXT:
Denver heads on the road for the first time in 2024 for two matches in the state of Texas, first playing at No. 25-ranked Texas A&M on Wednesday, August 21, before visiting Lamar on Sunday, August 25.
