DENVER, CO --The Denver volleyball team won the first set, but couldn't hold on and fell in four sets (25-18, 29-31, 20-25, 16-25) to the Northern Colorado Bears, Saturday at Hamilton Gymnasium.
The loss dropped Denver to 5-3 on the season.
The Pioneers offense was paced by Cassie Davis, who finished with 20 kills on the day, and by Jamia Johnson, who had 11. Defensively, DU had two players reach double figures in digs as Alayna Finucan had 22 and Emersen Werger had 10. From the front row, Jada Hamer contributed seven blocks and Johnson added six rejections.

SET 2 | Denver fell in the second set 31-29 to tie the match 1-1. The Pioneers fell in a close second set, losing in a stanza that was tied 13 times and had five lead changes.
SET 3 | Denver lost again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Pioneers fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set 25-20.
SET 4 | Denver lost set four and the match, falling 25-16. The Pioneers trailed by as many as nine points as Northern Colorado grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 and Denver wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up seven times before the Bears took over in the second half of the stanza.
