Denver Drops Middle Game of Homestand to NDSU

The Pioneers will close out the three-game homestand Wednesday against Omaha

DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program fell 69-50 to North Dakota State on Saturday afternoon inside Hamilton Gymnasium.

The Pioneers (6-13, 0-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Nicholas Shogbonyo, who had 16 points. Josh Pickett tacked on 10 points off the bench and Josh Lee added eight points and two steals.

Pedro Lopez Sanvicente pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Denver offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into 10 second chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
North Dakota State caught fire from beyond the arc in the early going to race out to a 18-4 lead at the under-12 media timeout. The Bison took a 16-point edge into the locker room. Nicholas Shogbonyo had seven points in the first 20 minutes to lead the Pios.

NDSU kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 45-25 advantage before Denver went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Lee's layup, to shrink the deficit to 45-34 with 12:23 to go in the contest. North Dakota State responded and outscored the Pioneers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 69-50. Denver took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 31 points in the lane.
