DU Hockey Ranked No. 5 in National Polls

Pioneers set for road series this weekend at Minnesota Duluth

DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team moved up to No. 5 in both the USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls after the latest national rankings were released on Monday.

Denver is coming off its final bye weekend of the regular season and was previously ranked No. 7 in the USCHO.com and No. 6 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls last week. DU last played on Jan. 10-11 against Miami, winning 4-1 and 6-2 to sweep the home series.

Boston College moved up to No. 1 in both polls following a loss by Michigan State, which dropped to No 2 in each ranking. Western Michigan is No. 3 and Minnesota is No. 4 in the USCHO.com poll, while those squads are switched in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live ranking.

Denver is presently at No. 4 in the Pairwise computer rankings that determine the NCAA Tournament field.

The NCHC has the second-most teams ranked among all conferences with six. After Western Michigan at No. 3/4 and Denver at No. 5/5, Arizona State comes in at No. 11/11 and is followed by North Dakota at No. 16/16, St. Cloud State at No. 17/17 and Colorado College at No. 19/19. Omaha also received votes in each poll as well.
