Liv Moritz Set to Make FIS Alpine World Cup Debut at Kronplatz

Denver skiing sophomore is also in her second year on the U.S. Ski Team

DENVER – Sophomore Liv Moritz of the University of Denver ski team will make her FIS Alpine World Cup debut on Tuesday in the Italian Alps.

Moritz will start with bib 65 in the women's giant slalom at Kronplatz, Italy, as she will be one of seven Americans taking part in the race, which also includes DU skiing alum Katie Hensien (bib 28). Run 1 begins at 2:30 a.m. MT and qualified athletes will race in run 2 at 5:30 a.m. MT. The race can be watched live or on-demand at https://skiandsnowboard.live/ (subscription required).

The Vail, Colorado, native is also in her second year on the U.S. Ski Team and is a member of the Alpine C squad. Moritz made her Europa Cup debut earlier this month in slalom at Les Diablerets, Switzerland, and posted a 27th-place finish on Jan. 10 in giant slalom at Puy Saint Vincent, France, which helped her earn a spot in Tuesday's World Cup race.

On the Nor-Am Cup circuit, Moritz owns 20 career top-10 finishes, including a sixth-place finish in GS and eighth in slalom on Dec. 13-15 in Panorama, British Columbia.

During her freshman season with the Pioneers ski team, Moritz came in the top 15 six times and recorded three top-five finishes in eight races. She also earned a spot on the podium twice, winning the 2024 Utah Invitational's giant slalom and placing second in the same discipline at the Westminster Invitational. Moritz was named to the All-RMISA First Team last year and earned First-Team All-American honors in giant slalom after placing fifth at the 2024 NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs.

Moritz has represented the United States at each of the last two FIS Junior World Championships, which included helping the Americans to a bronze medal in the team parallel competition and coming in 11th in giant slalom at last year's event in France.

In addition to being a member of Denver skiing, Moritz just completed her second season with the Pioneers' Division-I women's soccer team. The midfielder finished second on the squad in goals and was fourth in points (11) during the fall 2024 campaign. In 2023, she earned All-West Region Third Team honors and was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Year after producing seven goals and four assists.

Moritz is the second Pioneer to make her Alpine World Cup debut this season, as junior Mia Hunt also raced on the FIS's top circuit in women's slalom in Killington, Vermont, on Dec. 1.
