DENVER, CO -- The Denver women's basketball team got a 27-point performance from the bench on the way to a 71-56 victory over the Omaha Mavericks at home Wednesday.
The Pioneers (8-12, 1-6) had two players score in double figures, led by Jordan Jones, who had 24 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Angelina Robles added 10 points and Coryn Watts added nine points.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 12-4 advantage, Denver went on a 9-0 run with 3:25 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Jones, to increase its lead to 21-4. The Pioneers then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 23-10 advantage. Denver did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 23 points close to the basket.
Denver built that first quarter lead to 33-19 before going on a 5-0 run starting at the 2:16 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Laia Monclova, to increase its lead to 38-19. The Pioneers proceeded to tack on two points to that lead and enjoyed a 42-21 advantage heading into halftime. Denver forced six Omaha turnovers in the period and turned them into six points.
Denver continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run to expand its lead further to 56-36 with 1:01 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Mavericks had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Pioneers still entered the fourth quarter with a 56-39 edge. Denver scored five fast break points in the quarter.
The Pioneers then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Denver took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 15 points in the paint.
