DENVER – The Denver Pioneers hockey team is ranked No. 7 nationally in both the latest USCHO.com and USA Hockey polls that were each released on Monday.
The Pioneers are coming off a weekend in split their series at Lindenwood, losing 4-3 to the Lions on Friday before winning by a 4-0 score on Saturday. DU was ranked No. 5 in each poll last week.
Michigan State is the new No. 1 team in the nation in each ranking after picking up a road sweep at then-No. 1 Boston University last weekend. MSU—last week's No. 3 (USCHO) and 4 team (USA Hockey)—jumped past Western Michigan, which stayed at No. 2.
Michigan is now at No. 3 in both rankings while BU dropped to No. 4. Penn State moved up to No. 5 and Quinnipiac is up to No. 6.
The NCHC is tied with the Big Ten and Hockey East for the most schools ranked in the top 10 (three) and its five total ranked squads are third-most in the nation. Joining the Pioneers and Broncos in the rankings are league foes North Dakota at No. 8/8, Colorado College at No. 16/17 and Minnesota Duluth joining the poll for the first time this year at No. 18/19. Arizona State dropped out of the poll but still received votes, along with Miami and St. Cloud State.
UP NEXT: No. 7 Denver continues its four-game road swing this weekend as it travels to Boston to play the No. 9 Boston College Eagles on Friday and [RV] Northeastern on Saturday. Both games begin at 5 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
