DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team began the 2025 Colorado Cup with a win over Weber State in the first hidden dual of the weekend, held at Denver Tennis Park on Friday.
 
DU and WSU opened up play for the tournament with Denver claiming nine wins in the teams' 12 total matches – though singles wins from sophomore Natálie Cinková and senior Claudia Martinez de Velasco were earned while playing as fill-in athletes for Weber State.
 
Six Pioneers were perfect in single and doubles play on the day: seniors Zoe Adkins, Hana Bečirovič Novak, Marley Lambert and Louise Wikander; and redshirt freshmen Natali Jaiani and Remy Nguyen.
 
Cinková and Martinez de Velasco also teamed up for a doubles win while playing on behalf of Wyoming in the Cowgirls' dual against Colorado.
 
The duos of Lambert/Wikander, Adkins/Bečirovič Novak and Jaiani/Nguyen each contributed 2.5 points to Denver's 7-5-2.5 win against Weber State. In the day's other dual, Colorado claimed an 8-2 win against Wyoming.
 
The Colorado Cup features four schools – Denver, Colorado, Weber State and Wyoming – facing off in dual-style matches each day. Points are awarded for singles (1) and doubles (.5) wins for each school's two-person duos within each hidden dual. Players from Colorado State and Denver are playing on behalf of Weber State and Wyoming to create equal-size teams for the weekend.
 
The Colorado Cup continues on Saturday with Colorado taking on Weber State at 9 a.m. and Denver playing against Wyoming at approximately 11 a.m. MT at Denver Tennis Park. Admission is free.
