CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 7 University of Denver hockey team used a three-goal second period to break open Friday night's top-10 matchup at the No. 9 Boston College Eagles and win 7-3 at Kelley Rink at Conte Forum.
Denver (3-1-1) concludes its weekend trip in Boston and season-long four-game road swing on Saturday night at Northeastern. Game time is at 5 p.m. MT, with ESPN+ having the broadcast.
Seven different Pioneers and all four forward lines produced goals, while juniors
Boston Buckberger and
Kieran Cebrian and sophomore
Hagen Burrows each registered two assists in the victory.
"We felt like we had really good depth on our team, and to see seven go in obviously feels good," said Richard and Kitzia Goodman Hockey Head Coach
David Carle. "We've been in games, even the ones we've won by a larger margin, that have been tight late in the third… So to see the puck go in for a lot of different guys; there's a lot of guys in the room that feel good. You feel good when your name's on the scoresheet, and you're putting it in the back of the net."
Freshmen forwards
Kristian Epperson and
Brendan McMorrow both netted their first career goals, while rookie defenseman
Eric Jamieson potted his second marker of the season. Senior
Rieger Lorenz, juniors
Sam Harris and
Eric Pohlkamp and sophomore
Jake Fisher also found the back of the net.
Goaltender
Quentin Miller made 31 saves on 34 shots, as he was playing in front of several family and friends that made the six-hour drive from his hometown in Montreal, Quebec.
Boston College (2-2-1) opened the game's scoring at 9:06 of the first period, but Pohlkamp and Epperson both tallied on outside shots to give DU its first lead evening. BC tied the contest just prior to the intermission before the Denver took the lead for good. The Pios tallied three unanswered goals in the second, including Jamieson and Harris netting markers in a matter of 1:36 early in the frame.
The Pioneers led 5-3 at the second break added two more goals in the third from Fisher and Lorenz (empty net).
Neither team scored on the power play, with the Eagles taking four penalties and the Pioneers only taking one infraction—in the opening minutes of the contest.
BC finished with a 34-27 edge in shots on goal.
Denver has now won four consecutive games over Boston College dating back to Oct. 21, 2023, which was the previous time the Pioneers played the Eagles in Chestnut Hill. The Pioneers defeated the Eagles in both the 2024 NCAA National Championship Game and the 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional Final.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers wrap up their season-long four-game road swing on Saturday at Northeastern before hosting Alaska Anchorage for homecoming weekend at Magness Arena on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

QUOTABLES
Richard and Kitzia Goodman Hockey Head Coach David Carle
On playing Boston College: "There's a lot of mutual respect. It starts there truthfully for their staff and how they do things. They're an excellent team and program and do a great job. All these games have been tight that we've been in. Even tonight, they had some looks, our guy made some saves. I thought we managed it as the game went on, but you can see and feel the intensity. I thought last year in the regional game was probably the most physical game we've ever had with them. Tonight wasn't quite that, but there was still some emotion in the game. The building was excellent like it was last time we were here. They're on the schedule next year; they're coming out to Denver for two. So we'll continue to play them, and odds are, as it's been the last two years, we may play each other again hopefully come in March and April. A lot of respect, that is where it starts, and I think the rivalry and temperature raises obviously when you're playing in the NCAA Tournament. We've done that at least four times since I've been back as a coach going back to '13-14 season when they laid the boots to us in Worcester I think."
On playing at Matthews Arena on Saturday: "I've never been there. I'm excited to go there. I know [more people] know the history more than I do. I know the Bruins used to play there. You know, there's a lot of history to the building and you certainly see that with how easy everything is to follow online… I think it will be a fun, exciting opportunity. I know it's sold out, it's their (Northeastern's) only game of the weekend. So we're looking forward to playing in the atmosphere and in a really historic venue."
On playing tight defense vs. BC: "It's early in the year and both programs I'll say lost a lot of people. You asked a question about the rivalry, there's only eight players on our team that were in that championship game. That's only two years. That's a bit of the nature of college hockey right now. I don't know what the numbers are for them, but there are a lot of new people in both programs and certainly they still have really good players, we still have really good players. For us, it was adjusting a bit to their style of play and how they do things. I thought we managed pucks a lot better as the game wore on. I thought early in the game a lot of the chances they had were at the top of the circles to the blue line in our own end that were turnovers. Blue line to the top of the circles in their end that were turnovers and fed into their transition, which they are really excellent at. I just thought as the game wore on we matured and managed the puck better. Certainly a big factor was one penalty for us, and we scored three face-off goals. Only eight shots against in the third. You know, we were committed to blocking shots that the stats and the data show. They went 14 (in the first period), 12 (in the second) and eight (in the third) on shots on goal each period. It took us time to adjust, and our goalie was there to make saves, and obviously our offensive output was there to allow us to adjust, not to chase the game. It was a great learning experience. Did we play great? No, but we're really excited to get out of here with a victory."
