BOSTON – The No. 7 Denver Pioneers hockey team outshot the Northeastern Huskies by a 35-14 margin but fell 1-0 on Saturday night at Matthews Arena.
DU (3-2-1) wrapped its season-long, four-game road swing by going 1-1-0 in the Boston area after winning 7-3 at No. 9 Boston College on Friday in Chestnut Hill. Denver finished the road swing 2-2-0 overall, as the Huskies were rested and waiting for the Pioneers as they didn't play the previous night.
Lawton Zacher earned the shutout in net for NU (3-1-0, 1-0-0 HEA), while Denver freshman goaltender
Quentin Miller stopped 13-of-14 shots in his third consecutive start.
Amine Hajibi scored the only goal on the evening, as he finished a cross pass from Griffin Erdman in the slot at 2:17 of the second period.
The Pioneers outshot the Huskies 11-2 in the first period, 15-7 in the second and 9-5 in the third. DU finished with a 68-32 edge in total shot attempts.
Denver went 0-for-2 on the power play and killed off its lone man advantage. DU is now 12-for-12 on the penalty kill this season.
DU won 57.6 percent of faceoffs, going 34-for-59 at the dot.
Denver was playing at Matthews Arena for the first time since Oct. 16, 2004 and for the final time as the world's oldest multi-purpose arena is closing its door in December.

- DU finished 9-4-0 all-time at Matthews Arena and 6-4-0 vs. Northeastern in the building. The Pioneers won the 1960 National Championship over Michigan Tech at the rink when it was then known as Boston Arena
- Denver is now 16-3-1 in its last 20 non-conference outings and is 10-3-0 versus Hockey East opponents since the start of the 2023-24 season.
- The Pioneers' nine-game winning streak over the Huskies dating back to Nov. 25, 1994 came to an end. DU has 17-6-0 overall record versus NU.
- Goaltender Quentin Miller's season-opening unbeaten streak came to an end (2-0-1).
- James Reeder was playing in his 50th career game, becoming the first member of Denver's sophomore class to reach the half-century mark.
- Denver held Northeastern to just two shots on goal in the first period, the fewest by an opponent in a period this season. It was the fewest since DU also only allowed two shots on goal in the second period on Oct. 5, 2024 at Alaska Anchorage.
- Clarke Caswell had his season-opening point streak end at five games (2g/4a).
- Samu Salminen's four-game point streak (2g/2a), and Hagen Burrows (2g/5a), Garrett Brown (0g/3a) and Jake Fisher's (3g/2a) career-long point streaks also ended at four games as well.
