PROVO, Utah – The University of Denver women's tennis team opened play at the 2025 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by BYU, with eight combined wins on Tuesday.
The first day of play at the tournament featured the round of main-draw doubles followed by two rounds of qualifying singles.
Denver entered five doubles teams into the draw, though only four saw action on Tuesday with the duo of seniors
Hana Bečirovič Novak and
Marley Lambert receiving a bye through the first round as the No. 5 seed.

Yunfei Cai gave the Pioneers a second doubles victory with an 8-4 win.
Three of the 10 DU student-athletes did not play in singles on Tuesday after receiving direct entry into the main draw. The seven Pioneers in the qualifying draw sought two wins on Tuesday to earn places in the main draw with Bečirovič Novak and Cinková succeeding. Freshman
Ruby Hansen joined them with a win in the qualifying round of 64 but fell in her second match of the day to just miss a spot in the main draw.
Among the notable single results for Denver was a double bagel from Bečirovič Novak in her second singles match and a rally from a set down from Cinková to advance to Tuesday's second round of singles.
The 2025 ITA Mountain Regional Championships continue on Wednesday with the doubles rounds of 32 and 16, followed by the start of main-draw singles play. Matches are set to begin at 8 a.m. MT.
