Denver Women’s Soccer Shuts Out South Dakota State

First-half goal from Lund, clean sheet from Santos secures 1-0 win for DU over Summit League rival on Thursday

DENVER – The University of Denver women's soccer team (7-4-3, 4-1-0 Summit) posted a 1-0 shutout victory against South Dakota State under the lights at University of Denver Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

DU came away with the win it its penultimate home match of the 2025 regular season off a 21st-minute goal from freshman Lilly Lund. Senior Isabella Chidiac set up the goal from a corner kick that was initially blocked away by the keeper before freshman Annie Philbin sent a header off the rebound toward the far post and found Lund, who pushed the ball across the line.

SIGNIFICANT STATS:
  • With the win and an Oral Roberts draw on Thursday evening, DU moved back atop the Summit League table with 12 points.
  • DU has now won five of its last six matches.
  • Lund becomes the fourth Pioneer to have scored multiple times this season and did so with the first game winner of her career.
    • She also put all three of her shot attempts on target and tied for the match lead in total shots.
  • Chidiac extended her team lead in assists, notching her seventh of the season and moving up to nine total points earned.
  • Philbin found her second assist of the season as well.
  • Redshirt junior Alina Santos made seven saves – one off her career high – on her way to collecting her fifth clean sheet of the year.
FIRST HALF:
12' | Denver's first shot of the day came from the foot of redshirt sopomore Luci Vincent from the edge of the penalty area, but she curled it just inches wide of the far post.

21' | Also from the edge of 18-yard box, Lund took a look at net and kept it on target, though the SDSU forced it clear over the crossbar.

21' | On the subsequent corner kick, the keeper made the initial punch save off Chidiac's service. Philbin found herself under the ball and headed it toward the far post where Lund settled it and pushed it across the line.

22' | Lund again found herself with the ball deep in the six-yard box and thought she had a second goal in as many minutes, but she was ruled offside.

32' | Chidiac put a ball toward the center of the net but had her shot contained by the SDSU keeper.

SECOND HALF:
50' | Redshirt senior Samantha Dreiling finished a run up the left side of the pitch with a feed up to Lund near the edge of the box, and the freshman forced a save on her shot.

65' | Chidiac and redshirt junior Emma Thielbahr came close to connecting on yet another goal from a corner kick but saw Thielbahr's header saved late by the keeper.

85' | Vincent fed S. Dreiling beautifully through the midfield where the redshirt senior was able to get a shot toward the net but had it end up wide right.
